Washington Nile Local Schools-Portsmouth West High School, 2024 R.A. Horn Outstanding Achievement Award Winner - Belle Cline

Isabella (Belle) Cline is a senior at Portsmouth West High School. She has attended school in the Washington-Nile Local School District since kindergarten. In second grade she was evaluated and determined to qualify for special education services. Through her years at West, Belle has worked extremely hard to succeed academically. She completes all her assignments, actively participates in class, solicits feedback for her work, and accepts constructive criticism with a humble attitude. She is eager to learn and uses her class time wisely. As a result of her self-discipline and hard work, Belle has been on the ‘A Honor Roll’ for all four years of high school. She has also scored “Proficient” on the state English Language Arts 2 end-of course exam.

This year Isabella earned the Ohio Means Jobs seal, which required her to examine and identify areas in her life where she demonstrated 14 qualities related to college and career-readiness. She has also earned the RiseUp Customer Service and Sales, as well as, the RiseUp Retail Industries Fundamentals certifications. These certifications recognize the successful completion of two different online courses (including final exams) that train students to be ready for entry-level or intermediate positions in the retail industry.

Belle has worked at the high school as a custodian, volunteered as a helper with the Special Olympics, and participated in the GRIT project. Her school mentors note that Isabella is one of the first students to step forward when there is a project to be started and she works very well with other students, even ones that she hardly knows. She gets along well with staff and students alike due to her positive attitude and cheerful personality. Belle is an outstanding student, beloved by all her teachers and a credit to Portsmouth West High School.
